To download Newton demos you need:
A Newton with free memory or a memory card. You also need a serial

Overview

The Software Sampler for Newton is your one stop source for information about
Newton software. With The Software Sampler, you can preview
software titles by category, read in-depth descriptions and view screen shots
of the application as it will appear on your Newton. Then, by connecting a
Newton to your PC, you can download demo versions of the available software -
giving you the opportunity to try the software first hand.

CD-ROM Organization

The CD-ROM contains the following files and folders:

SAMPLER.EXE - The application to preview Newton software and download
                   demos
README.TXT - This file you are reading now
SUPPORT (directory) - Files to make the Software Sampler Work

Connecting Your Newton:
You will also need a cable to connect your Newton to your PC. The cable
that comes with the Newton Connection Kit is ideal. Connect the cable to
the serial port on your PC.

You may need to check the connection settings. The settings are selected in
the Newton Package Installer. When you start a download, Newton Package
Installer automatically starts. You can then select the Preferences menu and
select your new connection method.

Troubleshooting

Memory Issues:
If you experience trouble, try quitting other applications or increasing the
size of your Windows Swap file. See your Windows manuals.

Downloading Problems:
Sometimes downloading takes a long time. If either the PC or the Newton
seems to have frozen, it is probably because the Newton is almost out of
memory. It will give you a message in a moment about the memory.

If the PC or the Newton doesn't come back after a while, you can cancel the
download by pressing clicking Cancel. You can also reset the Newton by
opening the battery compartment and pressing the reset button with a pen.
This will not cause any data loss in your Newton.

If the download never starts, read the Connecting Your Newton section above
for information on how to check and change the connection method.

Resetting after Downloading:
It is often a very good idea to reset your Newton right after downloading a
new package. Reset by opening the battery compartment and pressing the reset
button with a pen. This will not cause any data loss in your Newton. This
clears up any possible problems related to the recent download... it is like
housekeeping on the Newton.
